PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre project involved the fitout of an Environmental Centre intended to be used for the enjoyment and educational experience of the public, including school learning opportunities. The Discovery Centre was designed to provide an innovative and engaging place for the discovery of the natural environment in a relaxed setting that promotes a sense of nature in the city.
THE PROCESS
After competing with Australia’s premier design firms in a nationwide tender process, Xzibit won the contract and delivered an end-to-end fitout. Xzibit worked with Council to meet the requirements for key messaging and incorporating experiential engagement styles. Per council’s vision, our primary choice of engagement style was guided by non-didactic styles of learning; visitors to the centre discover through 'doing.'
THE RESULT
The installations and activities in the centre create a place full of discovery, mystery, awe and playfulness, which appeals to different personalities, age groups, levels of education and interest in the topics. Xzibit employed a high degree of creative and strategic innovation to ensure that the Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre is well-known as a clearly distinctive visitor experience.
'An overall visual spectacle where imaginative contemporary design meets high-end construction.' -Adrian Nguyen, Brisbane City Council
